Dans notre carrière, quand nous changeons de poste, ou d’entreprise, il est courant de ne pas maîtriser tous les aspects de cette nouvelle fonction. C’est pourquoi il est nécessaire de garder en tête certaines méthodes afin de faciliter au mieux notre formation et la transition. Lorsque je suis devenu devops j’ai dû faire face à ces mêmes difficultés et j’ai décidé de parler des méthodes qui m’ont aidé.

Accepter de partir de zéro

Lorsque vous prenez votre poste vous ne connaissez la plupart du temps en réalité que très peu de choses sur celui-ci. La première réaction normale de la plupart des personnes est de croire qu’ils sont en maîtrise totale et que si ils ont été embauchés c’est parce qu’ils connaissent déjà tous les aspects de leur nouvelle fonction. Or ce n’est pas le cas et il est important de le garder à l’esprit. La première étape pour bien se former est d’accepter qu’on ne connaît en réalité rien sur notre futur job. Cela peut paraître frustrant mais ça vous permet d’éviter de partir avec des bases qui sont peut-être erronées et qui risquent de vous induire en erreur. Imaginez que vous passez de développeur à manager. Vous allez vous dire que vous savez comment un développeur doit faire son travail et que donc par conséquent vous êtes capable de diriger une équipe de développeurs. Or les mécanismes de communication, de gestion du temps et des capacités de chacun de vos employés vous sont inconnus. Car la plupart du temps, vous étiez de l’autre côté de la “barrière” . Votre manager vous assignait des tâches à effectuer, suivait ces dernières et effectuait la coordination des efforts de toute l’équipe. Jamais il ne vous a été donné l’occasion de faire tout ce qu’il faisait. En résumé, ce n’est pas parce que vous connaissez un métier et que vous excellez dedans au point de vous voir offrir une promotion que vous allez tout de suite exceller dans cette nouvelle position.

I’m not here to only critisize NodeJS. In fact it is the framework we use at my work, and in a LOT of companies. It has served us well over the years in the browser, and after that, it has continued to help us on the server. Given the widespread knowledge of javascript, it’s understandable that many people also reach for it when implementing their backends.

CPU

JavaScript’s main disadvantage on the server is its single-threaded nature, which makes it difficult to fully utilize all the cores available. Developers must manually distribute the work to enable more cores, which is challenging and can result in inefficiencies compared to other platforms. The most common approach is to create multiple application instances, one per core, to take advantage of available processing power. However, developers using Rust, Go, or .NET do not have to worry about this issue, as their selected async runtime will handle this for them.

I recently encountered ChatGPT and Midjourney, which both display amazing intelligence. Je suis arrivé à LaJavaness en mars en tant qu’alternant Devops. Il faut savoir que je viens d’une formation spécialisée systèmes et réseaux. Donc sans compétences cloud enseignées en cours. Mais personnellement c’est un domaine qui m’a toujours attiré et après m’être autant que possible auto-formé me voilà en plein dedans.

LaJavaness est une entreprise qui produit des solutions IA à la française. Et elle à choisi comme solution d’infrastructure le cloud. Ce qui veux dire que de nombreux comptes, et utilisateurs cohabitent sur de nombreux fournisseurs cloud. Et pour chacune de ces entités les permissions qui vont avec. Un tel doit pouvoir accéder à tel serveur tandis qu’un autre ne doit surtout pas pouvoir.
